This hike starts from Gosh village and leads us deep into the forest toward the hidden Gosh Lake. Both the village and the lake carry the name of Mkhitar Gosh - a thinker, writer, priest, and one of the important public figures of medieval Armenia, known for creating a code of laws.
We begin walking through the village, slowly leaving behind the houses and entering the forest. The transition is soft - step by step the human world fades, and the forest takes over. The path goes entirely through trees, calm and alive at the same time. It gives you space - to breathe, to observe, to feel.
Here, you don’t just walk. You start noticing. The forest is full of presence. You hear it in the sounds, you smell it in the air, you see it in small traces - on the ground, on the trees, in the movement around you. Every step connects you more.
The lake doesn’t reveal itself easily. You walk and walk, and it stays hidden - until suddenly, it opens. A small, quiet lake, surrounded by forest, as if it has been waiting there the whole time just for you.
This hike has its own beauty in every season. In spring and summer it is green and full of life, in autumn it becomes warm and colorful, and in winter it turns into something completely different. Walking through a silent snowy forest and reaching the frozen lake feels like entering another world.
On the way back, as we get closer to the village, the view opens toward Goshavank Monastery. We visit the monastery - once one of the important educational centers of Armenia in the 12th-13th centuries, also connected to Mkhitar Gosh, who took part in its foundation.
After the hike, we continue the experience with locals - sharing food, stories, and a bit of everyday life, getting closer to the culture and traditions of the area.
