Overview

Apakeqar mountain rises above the lush landscapes of Tavush, and this hike is a beautiful mix of open views, forest calmness, and a touch of adventure. We start from Hovk village, slowly leaving behind the houses and moving through wide fields, where the mountains open up in front of us. Sometimes, if we’re lucky, we can spot wild horses freely moving through the landscape.

The trail is rich with life-colorful flowers, mushrooms hidden in the grass, and the constant feeling of being surrounded by nature. As we gain elevation, we reach an open field where the impressive Dimats mountains suddenly appear in front of our eyes, creating one of those moments where you just stop and take it in.

From here, we enter the forest. The path turns into soft zigzags, like a snake moving between the trees. It’s quiet, peaceful-you hear birds, feel the shade, and the whole atmosphere slows you down.

Closer to the top, the terrain becomes rocky, adding a bit of challenge and excitement before reaching the peak. And once you’re there, the reward is all around you-villages, mountains, and fields stretching in every direction. Birds glide at your level-eagles, vultures, ravens-depending on the season, making the whole experience feel wild and alive.

After the hike, we visit a local home, where we connect with the culture and traditions of the area, sharing stories and experiencing village life in a simple, real way.
